Food and Wine Fundraiser Features Diverse Local Chefs and Industry Professionals
The Veraison Project hosted its second annual Beyond the Glass Gala on Saturday, August 9, 2025 at City Hall Events in Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood. The fundraising event featured food and wine pairings from diverse Chicago chefs, restaurants, and wine professionals.
The Veraison Project is a non-profit organization committed to fostering equity within the wine industry through education, financial assistance, and apprenticeship opportunities for BIPOC individuals. The organization’s name references “veraison,” the onset of grape ripening, symbolizing the transition from growth to maturity—a metaphor for their mission to transform the beverage industry from exclusivity to true equity.
“Beyond the Glass brings together culture, culinary excellence, and beverage innovation to create a truly special night not just to celebrate, but to make real impact,” said Averiel McKenzie, Executive Director of The Veraison Project. “The funds raised directly support our mission to expand access, leadership, and opportunity in the wine and spirits industry. It’s about shifting the narrative and building a more inclusive future, one experience at a time.”
This year’s participating chefs and artisans include:
- Alisha Elenz (Whisk the Night Away)
