What’s better than dinner? How about dinner AND a show! This past Thursday I got to experience the #HearthSoulandFire experience at The Promontory in Hyde Park. The Promontory has music and dining all in one place. The music venue has live entertainment paying homage to the legacy of the music and arts scene on Chicago’s South Side. At the restaurant and bar area you can get a great meal by Chef Carlos Cruz and delicious cocktails before the show.
I went on Thursday night to experience dinner at the Chef’s counter and then a live concert by award winning gospel artist CeCe Winan’s. At the Chef’s counter you can get an up close look at all the behind the scenes action in the kitchen. It was so cool watching as some of the items are prepared in the restaurants brick hearth….like this pictured Brick Chicken (achiote marinade, chimichurri, and monfongo). Also the pictured Hearth blistered Shishito Peppers (miso mayo, cilantro, and bonita flakes).
At Chi@Glance it’s all about the cocktails and food… so check out the other items we had below and start planning your visit to The Promontory for dinner AND a show!
We started off our meal with cocktails! I of course ordered a drink that hadn’t hit the menu yet, but it should be on there now. I highly recommend the “Secret Stash” (Pistachio milk and raisin rum). Reminds me of a horchatta. With all the specialty cocktails you can’t go wrong! We had plenty of them and were delighted by the flavors.
Moving on to the starters. Besides the Shishito Peppers we also had the following:
- Smoked Feta – Marinated olives, hearth bread
- Hearth roasted sweet potatoes, miso butter, popped sorghum
- Oysters Rockefeller, roasted oysters, creamed poblano, parmesan, herb bread crumbs
For our entrée’s I had the Brick Chicken and my dining companion had the Scallops (popcorn grits, roasted maitake, pickled grapes, popcorn shoots, country fried sweetbreads). He couldn’t say enough how good the scallops were. The chef also treated us to a dish not featured on the menu (pork belly on a bed of grits). Can you say YUMMY?!?!
What’s dinner without dessert?!?! I ordered the Key Lime Posset (Roasted Pineapple, graham crumble, passionfruit – pineapple sorbet). My friend went with the Kristine’s Cookie Plate (chocolate chip, oreo, Florentine, miso lime rice crispy). I will have to say that was one of the tastiest rice crispy treats I’ve ever had. That hint of lime was on point.
Make sure to check out The Promontory event line up and end dinner with a nice live music performance. I had so much fun and looking forward to heading back! Side note: The Promontory is a 2019 nominee for the Jean Banchet for: Best neighborhood restaurant. Good luck to The Promontory at the awards show this Sunday, 1/13/2019.
