Chicago is not just a place to live, it’s an experience. OUR city has some of the best restaurants, theaters, fashion, and events worldwide. We can sometimes be called crazy for living here during the winter, but if you experience “Summertime Chi” in full effect you’ll see why we stick around. The Chicagoan Lifestyle is fun, adventurous, luxurious, and obtainable compared to other major cities.
Chicagoan’s are excited to hear that a new multimedia online Lifestyle Magazine is in town and focused on highlighting Chicago’s small businesses and non-profits. I was invited to attend the Rose Phillips Online Magazine Launch Party that was held at Zella’s in Lincoln Park. Immediately I was intrigued by the cause they were raising awareness for that evening. The $20.00 admission fee to attend the launch party was 100% donated to the non-profit One Tail at a Time. One Tail at a time is a no kill, all-breed dog rescue adoption center. What a great cause to support!
You know me and I had to do my research before attending the event. Rose Phillips Online credits themselves with being the leading online destination for acculturated Chicago. The online forums are very interactive and give you the tools you need to plan your next adventure in Chicago. Whether you’re looking for a family friendly event, educational outing, girls night out, or a romantic evening with your partner….they got you covered. As their site says their mission is to “promote economic prosperity, serve as an online business advocate, celebrate community commerce, and provide inspiration to our viewers in their pursuit of a well-lived life.”
At the event I interviewed Rose Phillips Online CEO/Founder, Lakesha Rose. Lakesha is known for her interior design expertise she shares on various TV segments….. WCIU, WGN, ABC, NBC, and many more. She’s also known for contributing and supporting various non-profits throughout the city. It was an honor to interview Lakesha and to learn more about Rose Phillips Online. What did you do before starting the Rose Phillips Online Lifestyle Magazine?
Before starting the online magazine I was a lifestyle expert on television and was talking about all things interior design and food. But to back up before that I was an interior designer, so when the big market crash came down I was able to work a couple of years in large developments, but then I said okay I need to do something else. So I decided I’m going to become the lifestyle expert in the city of Chicago!
How did Rose Phillips Online come about?
It wasn’t easy and I had to call every TV station and practically beg them to put me on and then you just work from there. From there I got hired by a company from New York who then started putting me on television and booking my segments to talk about national products. Once I started doing that for about two years I started looking around and saying…. well whose representing Chicago and whose representing small businesses? Then I said how can I make an impact on that platform?
I then consulted with someone in television with a marketing background. We came up with Rose Phillips Online! We decided to feature small businesses, non- profits, and people to know on a digital platform.
What makes Rose Phillips Online Platform Different?
Editorial is fantastic and there’s still a need for it, but I wanted to bring something different. I decided to create 4 different shows: Our city guide show, our food show, our wine and spirit show and our radar show. We use these 4 categories and basically bring our viewers segments in a digital and broadcast event platform. I think it provokes a more emotional response if you push play and see a video and see a place like this (Restaurant Zella we were in) and you see the food, the energy, and the people. You’re more prone to want to go there instead of just reading about it. That’s why I created Rose Phillips Online! I want to put Chicago on a map platform were small business and non-profits can be seen and heard literally.
In that brief interview I felt like I completely understood what Rose Phillips Online is ALL about. Creating a platform for viewers to interactively experience Chicago and the surrounding neighborhoods. Our small businesses need more attention and Rose Phillips Online fosters an environment of unifying Chicagoans through common interest and supporting fellow Chicagoans through Non-profit and community interaction. I’m a fan!
