Sooooo this is Christmas! Parties with family/friends, shopping along Michigan Ave with the holiday lights sparkling in the background, hot chocolate at christkindl market….and oh yes Christmas gifts waiting for you under the tree. How does that sound? PERFECT, right?!? Well….unfortunately not everyone gets to experience “perfection” during the holidays. In fact, some people don’t even get a fourth of that experience.
Whether well intentioned or not, some families are just barely getting by. It’s up to those that have the means to give back to support organizations that are trying to uplift the spirits of others, especially children.
The Daisie Foundation is one of those organizations looking to bring a smile to a child’s face this holiday season. The Daisie Foundation is a non-profit organization that is a continuation of the work of the late Daisie Robinson. Daisie Robinson was an ardent supporter of the underprivileged, particularly women and children. The organization leads to empower, inspire, and provide assistance and opportunities for those in need.
Several sponsors and volunteers came together on Tuesday, December 19th, for the 2017 Daisie Foundation Holiday Outreach. (A Better Day with Julie, Lifeway Kefir, M2 Boutique, Penske, Windsor’s Lift Body Center, City Girl Events, Banana Republic, Five Below, Chicago Woman Magazine, Row 24 Events and Productions, Papacito’s Restaurant, Nando’s Peri-Peri, Blue Light ABA Consultants, Smart Sinus and Allergy, Inspire All Media, and Sonya Martin Photography). The initiative was to surprise 800 students with a proper holiday celebration involving food and gifts! I was ecstatic to be involved when one of the lead sponsors Julie Hightower from the talk show “A Better Day with Julie” invited me to participate. The annual outreach delivered over 1800 gifts to students between the ages of 4 and 14. Gifts ranged from winter accessories, toys, and of course books!
The foundation also gave back to the wonderful faculty and staff that provide guidance and support every day. There was a luncheon provided by Papacito’s Restaurant and Nando’s Peri-Peri, as well as a few surprises for the teachers and principal Ms. Lillian.
This event definitely showcased how the holiday spirit needs to include giving back to our local communities. Let’s always strive to help others! If you want to get involved or make a donation to The Daisie Foundation you can email events@Daisiefoundation.org or visit the website at http://www.daisiefoundation.org/. All donations and sponsorships are tax deductible.
Hope you have a Merry Christmas and remember the best gift of all is giving! 🙂
