2025 Keynote Speaker: Carla Hall

The 2025 National Restaurant Association Show has come to an end. The show was held May 17th – May 20th at McCormick Place. The NRA show is where the future of foodservice comes alive, where the next big stories unfold, and where trends are born, not followed. From bold flavors to game-changing tech, you experience the pulse of foodservice as it happens, surrounded by the people leading the charge.

There were exclusive product launches and candid conversations with industry leaders. There’sย 2,200+ exhibitors across 900+ product categoriesโ€”spanning equipment, tech, global flavors, and cutting-edge solutions. Each year I learn something new.

Chef Nina Compton Culinary Demo

  • Culinary Demos. I loved watching Chef/Owner/Author, Nina Compton show us how to make Saltfish ackee and dumplings.
  • Keynote Speaker, acclaimed Chef/Author/Television Host, Carla Hall. Carla shared her inspiring journey from accountant to renowned chef and TV personality. She conveyed the principles that have shaped her career and mission to uplift the next generation of food service professionals.
  • Walking the Showroom floor will always be my favorite part. So many gadgets to discover and of course delicious food samples.
  • Events associated with NRA like the Menu Masters awards. Recognizing visionary and creative food service professionals in R&D, culinary, and menu development.

This morning I attended an exclusive media show preview and youโ€™re in for a treat! The show celebrates floral, scent, fashion, and color at the brandโ€™s Iconic Chicago flag ship. The flower show is FREE and open to the public during store hours. 

Inspired by Americaโ€™s gardens and timeless art of handcraft, customers will embark on a cross-country floral journey through a series of immersive greenhouse moments across the main floor, featuring violets, magnolias, poppies, carnations, roses, and more! 

As a nod to the buildings century-long heritage, the experience will also feature references to the original Marshall Fieldโ€™s logo. Customers can also shop curated product assortments presented by @Coach and @Fossil alongside limited-time menu offerings at Marshall Fieldโ€™s Walnut Room, celebrating the start of the Spring Season.

Last night I attended Dialogues, which is an onsite discussion offering a deeper look at some of the themes, artists, and partnerships at the fair. I attended the panel ๐€๐‘๐“ ๐š๐ญ ๐ญ๐ก๐ž ๐Ž๐›๐š๐ฆ๐š ๐๐ซ๐ž๐ฌ๐ข๐๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ข๐š๐ฅ ๐‚๐ž๐ง๐ญ๐ž๐ซ: ๐’๐ก๐š๐ฉ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐๐ฎ๐›๐ฅ๐ข๐œ ๐Œ๐ž๐ฆ๐จ๐ซ๐ฒ ๐จ๐ง ๐‚๐ก๐ข๐œ๐š๐ ๐จโ€™๐ฌ ๐’๐จ๐ฎ๐ญ๐ก ๐’๐ข๐๐ž (Moderated by: Virginia Shore (Curator of commissions, Obama Presidential Center)).

The conversation brought together a selection of contributing artists from the Obama Presidential Centerโ€™s commissioned art collection to share their ideas, research, and process driving these significant public commissions. Speakers explored how they are responding to the cultural and civic bison of the Center (opening this June) and the profound significance of creating new work for this landmark institution on Chicagoโ€™s South Side. @Obamafoundation

The National Restaurant Association Show is next m The National Restaurant Association Show is next month! (May 16th - 19th) Iโ€™ve been going since 2018 and this is one of my favorite shows to cover. The NRA show brings professionals from across the globe to discover innovations, build connections, and drive the industry forward. 

@nationalrestaurantshow has 53,000+ attendees, 2,300+ exhibitors, and features 900+ categories. My favorite things to do is walk the show room floor for tasty bites and to discover new innovative technology gadgets. I also love the culinary demoโ€™s that feature some of our favorite Celebrity Chefโ€™s and most demoโ€™s follow with a cookbook ๐Ÿ“• signing.

Chef @Arnoldmyintbna (James Beard Award nominated Chef, restauranteur, and Author) was in Chicago for a one day only, Thai Seafood collaboration with @Lowcountrychi (Southloop location). 

Arnold released his debut cookbook - ๐‘ญ๐’‚๐’Ž๐’Š๐’๐’š ๐‘ป๐’‰๐’‚๐’Š: ๐‘ฉ๐’“๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ ๐’•๐’‰๐’† ๐‘ญ๐’๐’‚๐’—๐’๐’“๐’” ๐’๐’‡ ๐‘ป๐’‰๐’‚๐’Š๐’๐’‚๐’๐’… ๐‘ฏ๐’๐’Ž๐’† - this past Fall to immediate acclaim, being named one of 2025โ€™s Best New Cookbooks by The New York Times, The Washington Post, and Southern Living.

I was invited to this awesome cookbook signing meet and greet lunch that paired Lowcountryโ€™s signature seafood boil with Thai sauces created exclusively for the celebration alongside sides drawn directly from Chef Arnoldโ€™s Cookbook. Such a tasty event! ๐Ÿ˜‹
