This weekend was certainly one for the books! I celebrated my 35th birthday ALL weekend and made my way over to Lips Chicago for their Grand Opening. Check out ALL the details below!
Lips, the ultimate in drag dining, had their Grand Opening beginning Friday, August 23. Chicago audiences will be able to experience Lips’ one-of-a-kind glitz and glamour, located at 2229 S. Michigan Avenue, joining its lineup of successful venues in New York City, San Diego, Fort Lauderdale and Atlanta.
Featuring a leading cast of nationally-recognized drag talent including Chicago drag legends Mimi Marks, Mz. Ruff N’ Stuff and Angel LeBare; Atlanta’s Shavonna Brooks; and New York City’s Delilah J. Brooks; coupled with a menu by leading Chicago chef Tom J. Schmitt and a variety of signature cocktails, Lips aims to give Chicago audiences a show like they’ve never seen before.
“For more than 25 years, Lips has set the bar for the drag dinner experience, and our fifth and largest location will be no exception,” said Yvonne Lamé, Lips founder. “With the addition of Tom J. Schmitt and our fabulous cast of queens, including incredible local talent, we can’t wait to introduce Lips to the great city of Chicago.”
The grandest location yet, Lips Chicago will feature a kaleidoscope of bejeweled mirrors, four eight-foot crystal chandeliers and sconces, pink leopard tufted walls, velvet curtains, an embellished stage, state of the art club lighting. There will even be a glamourous onstage throne to create a one-of-a-kind experience, never before seen in Chicago.
Lips’ talented queens will not only serve up a great show – they will also serve salads, appetizers, entrees and desserts. Doubling as lively waitresses, the entertainers will take orders and deliver meals with a special side of camp. Every audience member enjoys a front-row seat
to the nightly show, which will include lip syncing, live vocals, bawdy humor, choreographed numbers and campy comedy.
The best place to celebrate any occasion, Lips caters to bachelorette parties, birthdays, anniversaries and even the occasional divorce party. Special guests of honor will enjoy time onstage with the performers and a commemorative photo.
