Woman’s History Month – Mothers know it ALL! – Q&A with Pearlean Johnson

March 8, 2017 by Chi@glance

Pearlean Johnson

March is Woman’s History Month and we have A LOT to celebrate! I know so many positive influential woman that I couldn’t picture the world without. One woman in particular that has guided my life from the very beginning I’m proud to call my MOM. In my eyes my mom has never failed. She had a horrible childhood, but she managed to overcome and meet and marry the man of her dreams, raise 2 successful children, provide guidance to those she comes in contact with, and her biggest accomplishment yet published a Christian book called “Facts you Need to Know”.

Growing up my mom was THAT mom…you know the one that was always driving us to the mall, chaperoning on class field trips, hosting the sleepovers, and worked full-time as an Accountant. I was raised in a two parent home, so she definitely had the help of my dad, but it was still AMAZING how she effortlessly did EVERYTHING. LOL….I Remember I had to draw a rabbit for some reason for one of my classes and she even did that too! My dad laughed that he didn’t even know she could draw. Proving she really could do everything. (That rabbit looked dope).

As I went through middle school and started hosting sleepovers. I remember waking up late at night to go to the bathroom and I stumbled upon a conversation my mom was having with one of my close friends on not dropping out of school. I think that’s when I realized how troubling some kids households really were. My mom was the glue to EVERYTHING and for Woman History Month which I would like to also refer to as Woman Appreciation Month I wanted to sit down and ask my mom a few questions….and Mrs. Johnson’s advice applies to ALL. 🙂

Sooooo……let’s get started!

  1. You yourself did not have the best childhood growing up. What advice would you give to those that may still be struggling to overcome the past?
Answer: My advice is to not live in the past. The past is called the past for a reason. We all make mistakes.  The best thing that you can do is – take a brief moment to learn from your mistakes and then let go, keep moving forward. You should never live in the past; just learn from it, so you can become wiser.
  2. Career – I Remember growing up you gave me and my sister (Tosha) advice to follow the money and you can still focus on your passion at the same time. What did you mean by that?
Answer: First off let me clarify that I did want you guys to be in a field that you enjoyed, but also a field that would allow for you to support yourselves. For example your sister was really good at drawing. Everyone should follow their heart, but I also knew without connections it would be hard for her to make money off of just being a good drawer. That’s why I suggested she go into the field of marketing. She could still branch out from their and draw if she still chose to. It’s sort of like how some people go to school for acting and others are just at the right place at the right time and get cast. Also, I want to add it’s never too late to give up on your passion. If you are truly passionate about something you will find time to do it. Just like you work full -time and you still find time to blog and write. If you’re passionate about it you will find a way to make it happen.
  3. Woman’s Health – Of course we ALL know you’re not a doctor and don’t claim to be. YOU however, look fabulous at the age of 57. What’s your advice to remain healthy and beautiful?
Answer: My advice is to make every day count, do not live by age, keep going.  Get into a healthy regime that encompasses plenty of exercise and healthy eating. In addition to the aforementioned, I replenish my body with holistic vitamins and minerals so I can restore what my body has depleted over the years.
  4. You had a healthy successful marriage that lasted for 25 years. (RIP Larry Johnson) What advice do you give to today’s women for relationships?
Answer: Always put God first in your life. This means keeping His commandments at all cost. I had a successful marriage because I used the word of God as my guide in life. As a woman, we need to stop looking for a man to give us self-worth and happiness. These things must come from within. A life that is filled with love, joy, peace, and happiness can only be obtained through a relationship with Christ, not through marriage or anything else. Realizing this fact is how I made my marriage successful. I first used God’s word to make myself happy and then my happiness radiate outward to my family (making them happy as well).
  5. What  advice would you give on raising children?
Answer: Be hands on. Get involved in their lives. Interactions such as these allow you the opportunity to teach them the word of God, which is what is needed in order to be successful.
  6. What does it mean to be a woman to you?
Answer: Being a woman means living my life by God’s standard. God put women on a pinnacle. This is why Christ commands husbands to cherish and nourish their wives. With the aforementioned in mind, I have always refused to settle for anything less. I live like a priestess (queen) who is a member of Christ’s royal priesthood and demand to be treated as such.
  7. Tell us a little bit about your first published book. 🙂
Answer: My book “Facts You Need to Know” is an enlightening dialogue on subject matters such as depression, feeling of loneliness, marriage, etc. This book can be purchased at bookstores everywhere or online at the Apple iTunes store, Amazon, Google Play or Barnes and Noble. It is a compelling, empowering book that provides answers to troubling problems we encounter on a daily basis. My book covers topics that dig deep into our heart, soul, and mind so we can uncover answers to what’s hindering us from living the extraordinary Christian life Christ came to give us.

Thanks so much mom! Hope my moms advice helped you out like it’s always helping me out. 🙂 Happy Woman History Month!
