Red Bull Illume is a global action sport photography competition. 2016 marks the 4th Red Bull Illume competition over the pass decade. This year is the first time ever for Chicago to host the winner awards as well as the opening of the Red Bull Illume exhibit which will be in Millennium Park and open to the public to view September 29th – October 9th. Red Bull Illume to Unveil Winners, Gallery in Heart of Chicago
Global competition culminates in Winner Awards Ceremony and
gallery opening on Wednesday, September 28
WHAT: On Wednesday, September 28, Red Bull Illume will unveil the winners of its global action sports photography competition during a special Winner Awards Ceremony at Chicago’s iconic Art Institute. Hosted by television personality Tina Dixon and snowboarder Louie Vito, the event will celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the prestigious contest, with a number of world-renowned photographers and personalities in attendance. During the ceremony, Red Bull Illume will unveil its Image Quest 2016 Overall Winner along with 11 Category Winners and Top 55 finalist images.
Following the Winner Awards Ceremony, Red Bull Illume will then open its traveling image gallery to the public. Located in Wrigley Square in Millennium Park, the Red Bull Illume gallery will feature the 55 finalist images on display in custom life-sized 6’x6’ light boxes, illuminating the photographs and giving them a new life. Following the opening night festivities, the Red Bull Illume gallery will remain in Wrigley Square through October 9 before heading to Toronto, San Francisco, New York, and more as part of a traveling global tour.
With 5,646 photographers representing over 120 countries from around the world submitting more than 34,600 mind-blowing action sports photographs, the 2016 Red Bull Illume competition brings together jaw-dropping photographs from the worlds of rock climbing, free diving, skateboarding, snow sports, and more.
