What better place to staycation than “Obama Land.” Hyde Park is known as being the residence of our 44th President, Barack Obama. The neighborhood is surrounded by history, shopping, and of course a wide array of food. If you want to stay in the middle of it all, venture over to the Sophy hotel.
The Sophy hotel is an art boutique hotel located at 1411 East 53rd Street. Amenities include a 24/7 fitness center and an on-site restaurant/bar.
I stayed in the beautiful Dorchester Suite and slept so good at night in the King size comfy bed. The Dorchester Suites are ambitious and intellectually charged, embodying the craft and passion that inspires today’s Hyde Park. Each of the Dorchester Suites offer hardwood flooring throughout, open entry space with marble-counter sink and living/dining space furnished with a dining table to accommodate 6. A sectional couch with twin size sleeper sofa, coffee table, lounge chair and 55-inch flat screen TV are also featured.
The private king bedroom is complete with a 55-inch flat screen TV, blackout drapes, luggage bench and lounge chair. The bedroom offers a 90 square foot private dressing room equipped with two full-sized wardrobes and makeup vanity. The 146 square foot marble tiled bathroom includes a deep soaking tub, large walk-in shower, double vanity, and luxury bath products. An accessible Dorchester Suite is also available. Pets are not permitted in the Dorchester Suite. These suites sleep four guests.
While staying at the Sophy I also went to the beautiful onsite restaurant bar, Mesler Kitchen and Bar. The full-service Chicago restaurant, bar, and lounge is artfully composed with a contemporary library offering brunch, lunch, and dinner daily with morning and evening room service.
I enjoyed dinner and brunch at the Mesler. For dinner I highly recommend getting the deviled eggs. They reminded me of a lox sandwich topped on deviled eggs. I also enjoyed the daily special menu housemade seafood bucatini pasta. I asked if I could make mine spicy and the chef definitely delivered. If you’re in the mood for a cocktail I would suggest the Mesler Manhattan. It comes with a mini cookie from Struggle Beard Bakery that’s infused with Uncle Nearest premium whisky. It was soooooo good!
Brunch is also a must at the Mesler. On Saturdays you can eat and groove with a live DJ brunch. I grabbed a pineapple mimosa and throughly enjoyed my entree of Shrimp ‘N Grits. I also got the Caesar salad and loved the addition of anchovies. Mesler is such a delicious dining destination.
If you’re staying in Hyde Park the Sophy on 53rd street is a great hotel option. You’ll never run of things to do. So much is happening (shopping, food, and entertainment) right on 53rd street. If you venture out a little there’s also museums, nature trails, theater, and MORE!
