Welcome to the new series where we highlight Chicago restaurants in various neighborhoods and diverse cuisines. Whether they’ve been a part of the fabric of Chicago for decades OR new on the scene, we’re highlighting them here.
First up…. Jook Sing. They just opened in October in the West Town neighborhood. My favorites dishes were: Vegetarian Egg Rolls, Wings, Popcorn Shrimp, Internet, Phat Kaphrao, and a soup not on the menu yet. Cocktail wise I loved the #5 Tropical and the #6 Spritz. Jook Sing: Press Release
Jook Sing opened at the end of October. Jook Sing is an exciting culinary concept that embraces the vibrant energy of Asian night market culture and street food in Noble Square. The term “Jook Sing” itself refers to individuals of Asian descent who were born in Western countries, and it carries a sense of endearment and celebration of cultural fusion. In this context, Jook Sing represents an immersive dining experience that blends the best Asian flavors with a Western touch. Whether you’re looking for a quick meal, a refreshing cocktail, or a late-night indulgence, Jook Sing welcomes guests for any occasion.
With its casual and comforting ambiance, Jook Sing envelops guests in a warm, energetic atmosphere amidst a symphony of colors. The neon lights, paper lanterns, and string lights come together to create a tableau that blends an ever-changing tapestry of hues.
On the menu, guests can expect dishes such as Jook Sing Internet, a playful twist on the Indonesian Warkops classic featuring Indomie, Telor (Egg), Kornet (corned beef), gai lan, napa cabbage, housemade sambal, and a variety of Asian herbs. Other dishes include Jook Sing Roti John, Singapore’s take on savory French toast, where a toasted baguette is pressed onto an egg omelet.
The bar program is crafted with refreshing riffs on classics, original herbal concoctions, fresh ingredients, and vibrant colors that perfectly complement the restaurant’s atmosphere. From tropical drinks to mocktails, Thai Tea, Vietnamese Coffee, sake, and wine by the glass, the drink menu caters to a wide range of tastes and preferences. Whether you’re in the mood for a vibrant and tropical libation or a flavorful non-alcoholic option, Jook Sing’s bar delivers an approachable and fun beverage experience.
Jook Sing is open Tuesday to Thursday, 5 to 10 p.m., and Friday and Saturday, 5 to midnight. For more information, visit https://www.jooksing312.com/ or follow on Instagram, TikTok @jooksing312, and Facebook @JookSing.
